Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I share a recipe?
- Sign in, then click 'Share Your Recipe' anywhere on the site. A guided wizard walks you through it step by step. The quickest route is to upload a JPEG straight out of your Fujifilm camera: we read the settings from the file's metadata and fill the form in for you, so all that's left is a title, a description, and your example photos. You can also enter every setting by hand if you prefer.
- Can I edit my recipes after publishing?
- Yes. Go to 'My Recipes' in your profile menu, find the recipe you want to change, and click Edit. You can update every field, including the images.
- Can I save a recipe and finish it later?
- Drafts are a Pro feature. With Pro you can save a part-finished recipe from the sharing wizard at any point and pick it up from 'My Drafts' whenever you like, then publish when you're happy with it. On the Free plan a recipe is published in one sitting.
- Can I import several recipes at once?
- Yes, with Pro. Batch import takes up to 15 Fujifilm JPEGs at a time, reads the settings out of each one, and turns them into draft recipes for you to review, tidy up, and publish. It's the fastest way to get a back catalogue of looks onto the site.
- What cameras are supported?
- All Fujifilm X and GFX series cameras with film simulation modes, from the EXR Processor bodies through X-Processor Pro, X-Processor 4, and X-Processor 5. Recipes are tagged with the camera and sensor generation they were made on, and recipe pages flag settings your body may not have.
- How do I find recipes for my camera?
- Every camera has its own page: open the Browse page and filter by camera model, film simulation, sensor generation, or tag, or go straight to a camera page such as /browse/camera/x100vi. You can also browse by film simulation or by genre, and sort the library by newest or most popular.
- Can I save favourite recipes?
- Yes. Click the heart icon on any recipe to add it to your favourites, then find them all again on the Favourites page in the main navigation.
- Is the Academy free?
- Every Academy article and every glossary entry is free to read, with no account required. The one Pro feature in the Academy is the guided pathway: a sequenced six-module route through the material with progress tracking and 'next up' navigation. Module 1 is free for everyone, so you can see how it works before deciding.
- What is X-Alchemy Pro?
- X-Alchemy Pro is our paid tier. It unlocks the AI-powered Film Recipe Builder (25 recipes a month, tuned to your camera), saved drafts, batch import, the guided Academy pathway, and priority support. Everything else stays free: browsing, sharing, favouriting, commenting, following, and reading the Academy.
- How much does Pro cost and how do I subscribe?
- Pro is £4.99/month, or £3.99/month if you pay annually (£47.88 for the year, a saving of 20%). Visit the Pricing page, choose monthly or annual, and click Subscribe. Payments are handled securely by Stripe, and you can cancel at any time from the Stripe Customer Portal.
- How many AI recipes can I generate?
- Pro includes 25 AI recipes per calendar month and Founders includes 100. The allowance resets at the start of each month and unused generations don't carry over. It's a fair-use figure rather than a fixed entitlement, so we may adjust it with at least 30 days' notice, as set out in our Terms.
- What is the Founders tier?
- Founders is a one-time £149 payment that grants Pro access for the operating life of X-Alchemy: no recurring billing, ever. It includes 100 AI recipes a month as a fair-use allowance. We're only releasing 20 Founders seats in total, and each Founder gets a numbered badge on their profile. Once the seats are claimed, the offer closes for good. Full details are in our Terms.
- Can I upgrade from Pro to Founders later?
- Yes, while Founders seats are still available. If you're already on Pro and want to switch, purchase a Founders seat from the Pricing page. Your existing Pro subscription is set to cancel automatically at the end of the current billing period, so you keep the month you've already paid for and are never charged again. Contact support if you need help with the transition.
- Can I cancel my Pro subscription?
- Yes, cancel any time through the Stripe Customer Portal. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds for unused time. Founders is a one-time purchase and isn't a subscription, so there's nothing to cancel.
- What payment methods do you accept?
- We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through our payment partner Stripe. All transactions are processed securely. We never store your card details.
- Can I get a refund?
- Pro refund requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis. If a technical issue prevented you using paid features, contact us and we'll resolve it or refund you. AI recipes already generated are non-refundable. Founders purchases are non-refundable once a seat has been claimed, given the limited supply.
- How do I contact support?
- Use the Contact page, or email us directly at [email protected]. We typically respond within 24 hours. For a quicker answer from other photographers, our Discord server and Facebook group are linked in the footer.
